On 28 December, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) conducted its campaign ‘A Day in the Presence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ at the historic Bhuikot Fort in Solapur. Drawing enthusiastic participation from youths across Solapur, Akkalkot, and nearby rural areas, the programme integrated spiritual reflection, civic service, and heritage learning within a site of enduring regional significance.
The sequence of worship and devotional chanting fostered a contemplative atmosphere that framed the day’s activities. A guided exploration of Bhuikot Fort—one of Solapur’s prominent historic landmarks—contextualized the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, highlighting themes of resilience, ethical leadership, and community responsibility associated with the Maratha tradition and the wider cultural heritage of Maharashtra.
A cleanliness drive in and around the fort translated reverence into action, aligning spiritual intent with seva and civic duty. Participants described a sense of shared purpose as they engaged in heritage conservation and site stewardship, recognizing that maintaining public spaces strengthens community identity and fosters intergenerational respect for Solapur’s cultural assets.
Structured discussions addressed contemporary social and national issues through an ethical lens—youth empowerment, environmental stewardship, communal harmony, and responsible citizenship. The conversations emphasized values common to the dharmic traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism: dharma, self-discipline, compassion, courage, and service. Attendees noted that this shared value framework encourages unity in diversity and supports collaborative approaches to local challenges.
Feedback from participants indicated increased motivation to preserve sites like Bhuikot Fort, deepen civic engagement, and sustain dialogue across communities in Solapur and surrounding rural areas. By coupling devotional chanting with a fort tour and a cleanliness drive, the programme demonstrated how cultural heritage education and practical community service can reinforce social cohesion and nurture inclusive nation-building.
Overall, the campaign illustrated a coherent model of community engagement: honor historical memory, practice seva, and apply shared dharmic values to contemporary public life. In doing so, it offered a replicable template for youth-led initiatives that strengthen cultural continuity, environmental care, and civic participation across the region.
