Letter to IMF highlighting Pedophilia in Pakistan

In an attempt to highlight the issue of continuous, relentless and state supported violations of Human Rights of minorities in Pakistan centered around forced under-age marriages for the purpose of religious conversions, I have written a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) director – Ms. Kristalina Georgieva.

Here is a copy of the letter

Sub: Minority rights violations and Pedophilia in Pakistan

I am writing to express my deep concern about the recent human rights violations against teenage girls in Pakistan. While we have heard about such incidents for many years, the frequency of those in recent months has been disturbing. The incidents of forced conversions and marriages, kidnappings, and rape have been on the rise in the country, particularly targeting religious minorities, including Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs.

I wish to direct your attention to the specific issue of forced marriages of under-age minority girls to older Muslim men for purposes of religious conversions which, for the lack of a better word, could be considered pedophilia. I am attaching a list of a few recent cases with this letter for your consideration in Annexure 1.

As a global financial institution that provides aid to developing countries, including Pakistan, I urge the IMF to make minority rights a condition for aid. The protection of human rights, including the rights of minorities, should be a fundamental principle guiding all economic and financial assistance provided to the state of Pakistan.

The IMF can, and must, create conditions such that the government of Pakistan is motivated to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of minority communities, especially women and girls. It is essential that the authorities take proactive measures to prevent such human rights violations from happening in the future and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

By making minority rights a condition for aid, the IMF can help catalyze a more inclusive and tolerant society in Pakistan, where the dignity and modesty of underage girls is protected.

I therefore urge the IMF to prioritize the protection of minority rights in its engagement with Pakistan, and to ensure that any aid provided to the country is contingent on the government’s commitment to upholding these rights.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
