Following the Arpora nightclub incident, Surajya Abhiyan submitted a detailed representation to the North Goa District Collector, urging immediate and strict action against unauthorised nightclubs that endanger public safety. The appeal underscores the urgent need for regulatory compliance in Goa’s nightlife sector to safeguard residents, visitors, and the broader tourism ecosystem.
The concern centers on venues operating without mandatory permissions, which can bypass essential safety standards such as fire compliance, crowd control, noise limits, and alcohol service norms. Unauthorised establishments heighten risks of accidents, disorderly conduct, and noise pollution, eroding community trust and undermining lawful businesses that adhere to licensing rules. Ensuring compliance with existing regulations is thus positioned as both a public safety imperative and a foundation for sustainable tourism.
In its representation, Surajya Abhiyan calls for focused enforcement: verification of licenses, audits of operating hours, adherence to sound norms, and valid safety certifications before allowing operations to continue. The submission emphasizes coordinated action among district administration, police, excise, and local bodies to ensure deterrence through consistent, proportionate penalties and swift corrective measures against non-compliant venues.
